The Final Word by Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival
The success of Annecy 2014 was based on many factors: presentations given by Isao Takahata and Pete Docter, world premieres of Feast and Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary and the advanced screening of How to Train your Dragon 2, the remarkable popularity of the cine-concerts, Work in Progress sessions and the Animation Off-Limits category, the enthusiasm for the stop-motion programmes and overall satisfaction with the selection.
The high temperatures during the 2014 Festival are sure to leave a lasting impression, as will many of the films. Portentous of beautiful evenings, the warm weather drew the masses to the Pâquier, and the presence of Carlos Saldanha, Chris Butler and Dean DeBlois electrified festivalgoers during these truly animated events.
But presenting the Honorary Award to Isao Takahata was, without a doubt, the most emotional moment of the Festival and the exceptional dimension of his Princess Kaguya was the high point in the Opening Ceremony which will stay ingrained in our memories.
See you in 2015 for a Festival devoted to women in animation and a spotlight on Spanish production.
